CWG - First in the Field

Company History

CWG was formed as Central Wool Growers in 1929 by a group of Lincolnshire farmers with the intention to grade and market their wool.

The business diversified into trading with it members on agricultural inputs in 1957 and opened its first store at Market Rasen in 1962. Other stores were added and the network of sales staff increased.

Three quarters of a century later, wool grading is still an essential part of the CWG business but agricultural merchanting accounts for most of the business' turnover. With 12 stores and 9 farm representatives, CWG is the leading supplier of agricultural products in the Eastern Counties and Central England. A re-branding in 2006 saw the company refocusing on its core agricultural products with the aim to deliver value for money products to farmers and rural dwellers in its trading area. CWG now employs 160 staff with the aim of growing the business and ensuring all customers receive a first class service each time they trade with CWG.
